Settling in
In the early years it is vital that tamariki are supported by positive learning experiences in an environment where they feel safe and comfortable. Effective and consistent settling in procedures will ensure that this is possible.
What does the process look like?
-
We warmly invite parents and children to attend a Classroom Tour to familiarize themselves with our centre.
-
We encourage whānau (family) and children to visit us as often as possible before the child's expected start date. We suggest three visits in the weeks leading up to their official start, though this can vary based on individual needs.
-
During these visits, we encourage whānau to get to know our educators and share information about their children, themselves, and their families. Our kaiako (teachers) provide resources to facilitate information sharing between whānau and the centre.
-
Each child will be assigned a key teacher who will be responsible for their care routines, helping them settle in and maintaining profile books.
-
Whānau are encouraged to complete additional information sheets provided to enhance educators' knowledge of the child's interests and routines.
-
We advise whānau to allow sufficient time for themselves and their child to acclimate to the new environment. Every child and family settle in at their own pace.
-
Whānau are welcome to bring special toys or comfort items that may help the child feel more at ease during the settling process.
-
We understand that sleeping in a new place can be challenging for children. To support their sleep, we kindly ask whānau to provide detailed information about their home sleep-settling strategies, enabling our educators to assist children in sleeping comfortably.
-
Whānau who are settling their children into the centre are encouraged to observe at any time during the day and actively participate in our program until they feel secure enough to leave.
We appreciate your involvement and collaboration as we strive to create a smooth transition for your child into our centre. Should you have any questions or require further information, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We're here to support you and your family throughout this process.
